East Java Economy Grew 5.01%



Economy of East Java during the year 2009 grew 5.01% with the main drivers of trade, hotels, and restaurants. This position on the prediction of Bank Indonesia (BI) Surabaya is for 4.5% -5%. Unfortunately, the agricultural sector is expected to become a mainstay of growth is only 4.01%.

"Growth in 2009 on the expectation. That is not too affected East Java crisis. But the farm was not really growing rapidly," said Deputy Leader of BI Surabaya Monetary Economics, Wibisono, Wednesday, February 10, 2010.

According to the Central Statistics Bureau (BPS) of East Java, East Java economic growth during 2009 was the main driving trade, hotels, restaurants grew 5.70% with a contribution of 1.79%.

Followed by manufacturing industry and agriculture which grew respectively 2.62% and 4.01% with the contribution of each 0.68% and 0.65%. Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter of 2009 alone, the economy experienced a contraction Java 0.89% compared to same period last year to 5.16%.

"We expect this year's East Java economy can grow 5% -5.5%. The hope of agriculture could grow even higher and if I can dominate," said Wibisono who also became Secretary of the Regional Inflation Control Team.
